Hello everybody,
This posts kicks off my adventures in Substacking. I’ll use this first one for a very brief introduction, and let things grow from there.
I am Charles Hackney, author, psychology professor, husband, and father. In this substack, I will be posting updates on my writing (both fiction and nonfiction), for those of you who wish to stay on top of current events from my never-resting pen, get advance notice of upcoming appearances, and see snippets of works in progress. I am a voracious reader as well, and I will be posting reviews of particularly noteworthy books both new and classic.
Current news:
My debut Urban Fantasy novel, Chosen by the Sword, the first in the Professor Howard Chronicles, is available for preorder, with an official release date of June 15th.
Works in Progress:
I am several chapters in on the second book in the Professor Howard Chronicles, with the tentative title Student of Blood. No spoilers, but with that for a title, you’d be right to guess that blood will be involved.
Another project on the go is the first novel in a Space Fantasy series, set in an alternate timeline in which humanity relies on magic as we explore the stars. I will post more about that series as I progress.
I also continue working on short fiction in the horror, sci fi, and fantasy genres. My work has been published in two anthologies by the awesome crew at Raconteur Press:
On the nonfiction front, I am collaborating with two other psychologists toward the development of a new Intro Psychology textbook.
I am a very busy guy.
